MXbackup service outage

We are aware of a filesystem problem with our primary MXbackup server.
This will have prevented us receiving email for the mxbackup service for the past hour,
this will not affect hosted customers on the primary email cluster.

RESOLVED: Upcoming LLU DSLAM Maintenance

The following exchanges are due to receive a software update affecting any customer connected to our LLU/Annex M DSL products.

There will be a loss of connectivity while the software update is applied , and customers may need to reboot their equipment to regain connectivity.

Emergency Email Maintenance

Starts: 2008/10/29 22:00 Ends: 2008/10/29 23:59

We will be carrying out emergency maintenance on our email service on Wednesday 29th October.  We’re adding additional SMTP relay servers to the cluster.

During this maintenance, customers may experience short periods where they are unable to send email from their email client.  Any email that customers attempt to send should queue up in their email client’s outbox, and be automatically sent once the maintenance is complete.

Outbound mail delays

We are currently aware of some delays on our outbound mail cluster. We have investigated and this is currently due to high demand on our outbound relay servers from customers. A request has been raised to our server team to investigate a capacity upgrade if it is required.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing this evening.

Update 16:15 2008/10/28
We are currently clearing a backlog of mail from our servers which have been due to some abuse of the service by a small number of customers.  These customers have been removed from the service and our servers are currently processing a large backlog of legitimate customer mail.  Outbound mail be incur a delay of 20-30 minutes.

Update 2008/10/29
All customer mail queues have now cleared and we are seeing normal mail delivery times on the network.

Web Hosting Maintenance

Starts: 2008/10/30 22:00 Ends: 2008/10/31 23:59

We have planned maintenance on our web hosting infrastructure on Thursday 30th October 2008.  During this maintenance, customer web sites may be unavailable for short periods of time.

This maintenance is for:

  • Load balancer fail-over testing
  • VMWare tools upgrade on the load balancer

LLU Exchange Outage - Basingstoke

We have been informed by our DSL service team that customers connected to the BASINGSTOKE exchange will currently be experiencing issues with connecting to our ADSL service.

A BT Powerfailure has caused inaccessibility to all LLU equipment hosted at the exchange , BT Power engineers are en route.

We will update this notification once further information has been received from our service team.

Our providers have now marked this fault as clear, BT engineering have replaced a failed power source at the exchange.

natproxy.gradwell.net registration issue

We have become aware of an issue with our NAT proxy server ‘natproxy.gradwell.net’ which is currently not registering Sipura/Linksys devices due to the way these phones pass their proposed expiry time to us via the SIP protocol.  This will cause phones behind this server to not receive inbound calls and outbound calls may also fail, depending on the phone configuration.  An emergency fix for this problem has been scheduled for 22:00 this evening.  As a workaround, customers can use our older NAT proxy server - nat.gradwell.net in the phone configuration under the proxy and registration section of the extension details in the phone web configuration interface.  Instructions for configuring these types of phones can be found at:

LLU Exchange Outage - Poole

We have been informed by our DSL service team that customers connected to the POOLE exchange will currently be experiencing issues with connecting to our ADSL service.

This incident has been escalated to our service provider and we will update this report once further information is received.

Intermittent website connection issue

We are currently aware of a problem with our PHP 5.0 server cluster which may be intermittently refusing connections for some web-sites.  This has been raised at our highest priority level and is being investigated by our server team.  We will update customers again as soon as possible.

This issue was resolved at 15:30 by the removal from our PHP 5.0 cluster of a server which is no longer working correctly as a web-site redirector.  We will not now be putting this failed machine back into the cluster due to the PHP 5.2 cluster being available.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the partial outage.
